Turn To Stone

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Immortalized in Stone.”

Your personal sculptor is carving a person, thing or event from the last year of your life. What’s the statue of and what makes it so significant?

This question first seemed really easy to answer but actually I’m not entirely sure. I graduated from university this year which is obviously a very significant life event so that is the first thing that comes to mind. But really, I wouldn’t want a statue of me in my graduation cap and gown. Yes I was proud that day and yes I loved my dress and looked good. When it came to the professional photograph however, I look terrible. Strange, when every other photo from that day I looked nice. But no, the one photo that will be shown to all my family, that will be displayed for decades to come, is the one bad photograph from that day. And I just feel like maybe my fictitious personal sculptor would choose that awful picture as a guide.

But really I think the most significant event was our graduation film screening a couple of months before actual graduation. All assignments were finally handed in and we got to show our hard work from the past year at the cinema. And there was a big relief to finally be finished, as much as I loved the work. I’m proud of the time I spent at film school and the work I did on my graduation film. Some people say film school is a waste of time but I found it educational, enjoyable and I’ve made great friends and contacts out of it. Yes, it may still take me a fair bit of time to eventually break into the film industry, but it takes time for everyone.
